The Future Classroom Scenarios have been created within a pan-European iTEC project. The scenarios support teachers in introducing the principle of innovation into their teaching practice. They also serve as a medium to understand challenges and opportunities of advanced learning practices in European schools. The scenarios have been designed by teachers from different countries.
This scenario is to use mind-maps and related approaches as a powerful tool for learning, in particular to promote deep understanding while at the same time encouraging a cross-curricular approach.
This scenario relies on collaborative knowledge building and on the classroom discussions facilitated by the teacher. There is also a strong element of inquiry-based learning. Assessment could be performed by checking students’ understanding and scientific vocabulary before and after the project. This data can be used to plan further or remedial instruction or homework/reading (formative assessment).
