This Learning Scenario has been developed by Maria-Isabela Miron as part of the Europeana DSI-4 project.
This learning scenario is for a History class to teach about propaganda and violation of human rights in the context of communism. The aim is to explore propaganda methods, distinguish between propaganda and ideology, and learn to recognize/identify propaganda tools. Students will start with defining propaganda and ideology, and watch videos about from the times of communist Romania, about the society. In groups, they then analyze historical texts related to daily life in communist Romania, and objects from the Europeana collections, in order to come up with conclusions on how propaganda works according to these sources. Finally, students will conduct an interview with an acquaintance t oask about propaganda and daily life in communism. The collected stories, as well as their own analysis will be presented analyzed in the following classes, and made into a booklet.
