This Future Classroom Scenario has been developed as part of the Europeana DSI-2 project. The main objective of this scenario is to help students learn the colors vocabulary and the degrees of darkness or lightness through visual objects in order to express complete descriptions in a second language (German).
Language and art can assist each other in an enjoyable way to learners of German as a second language. Getting the young learners involved with art should be approached very carefully, superficial and in a very relaxing atmosphere. They do not have to understand the paintings, but the goal is to introduce Europeana and new vocabulary about colors and to involve them in several activities. Europeana can be useful in to providing Art into the classroom and artwork can be used to develop a list of colours and to enrich them by degrees of darkness or lightness in a color. Mastering the vocabulary in this way is not a difficult process and studenst are delighted to be creative. After some activities they are able to transform their Classroom in a Piet Mondrian style world.
