In 2018, the ICWG has a new focus on exploring Fablabs and Makerspaces, extending the work from the previous year, which looked into personalised learning and innovative learning spaces in schools.
In December 2017, the group agreed on exploring Fablabs and makerspaces, especially those which are closely connected to schools or other educational organisations such as universities. The group will investigate how they link to pedagogy, the curriculum, cross-curricular projects or specific subjects, STEM education, and skills development.
It is envisaged to produce:
- some practical guidelines for schools on how to set up such spaces based on ongoing research work carried out by INDIRE, Italy and
- case studies and videos showing what Fablabs/Makerspaces are and how they work in practice.
Personalisation, inclusion and coding remain topics of interest for the group, which will be linked to the work planned.
