Social Media Literacy for Change (sml4change)
Social Media Literacy for Change (sml4change) is a one year project co-funded by the European Commission's Media Literacy for All pilot project, which aims to support European school leaders and teachers, particularly those working with young people at risk of being socially marginalised, to foster social media literacy (SML) in both their school and local community, thus reaching out to citizens at large. Initial Teachers Education Lab (ITELab)
ITELab (Initial Teachers Education Lab) is a Knowledge Alliance project between higher education institutions and industry to foster innovation and knowledge exchange in initial/preservice teacher education (ITE). The ITELab Knowledge Alliance project includes six universities providing teacher education, of which five will pilot the modules and student MOOC and one will act in an evaluation capacity. Project partners also include four companies that offer Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions and professional development for teachers. Read more here.
Europeana is Europe's digital cultural heritage platform. It currently provides access to over 58 million digitised items from more than 3500 European libraries, museums, archives and galleries. The Europeana DSI-4 project continues the work of the previous three Europeana Digital Service Infrastructures (DSIs). Read more here
Interactive Classroom Working Group
The working group is one of the three European Schoolnet steers. The aim of the Interactive Classroom Working Group (ICWG) is to explore common areas of concern, share experience, and address policy challenges related to the integration of a wide range of technologies in classrooms and their impact on teaching and learning. Nine Ministries of Education are involved (Austria, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland) along with a growing number of regional education authorities. Future Classroom Lab Regional Network (FCL Regio)
In FCL Regio European Schoolnet is working together with Provincia Autonoma di Trento (IT), Generalitat de Catalunya (ES), and Gothenburg Region (SE) to find new ways to allow for a more active participation by decision makers in regions in pan-European activities. The project specifically supports the integration of ICT in teaching and learning through the development of Future Classroom Scenarios and videos designed to guide policy makers, educators and school leaders in the effective use of technology and innovative pedagogical techniques. Triseum Validation Pilot
Recently, a Texas-based company, Triseum, joined the FCL and became the first industry partner to have game-based learning as its core business. Triseum grew out of the Live Lab in the Department of Visualisation at Texas A&M University and sees game-based learning as an emerging force that positively impacts learning outcomes. In order to better understand how schools in Europe can exploit game-based learning, Triseum is using the FCL Validation Service and funding a small pilot with schools in around five countries. Selected schools will develop and test pedagogical scenarios and learning activities utilising two Triseum games, ARTé: Mecenas™ and Variant: Limits™. Read more here.
BYOD Bring Your Own Device - A guide for school leaders
"BYOD Bring Your Own Device - A guide for school leaders" is a new publication by the European Schoolnet's Interactive Classroom Working Group (ICWG).
The guide is designed to provide school leaders, local education authorities and other decision makers with information about current Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trends, options and examples from schools in Europe as well as relevant lessons from BYOD implementations in schools in other parts of the world. European Schoolnet is coordinating the new CO-LAB project which aims to design as well as enrich existing collaborative teaching and learning scenarios and train teacher trainers, student teachers and teachers to implement them. The project aims to provide practitioners and policy makers with a dedicated space and time to experiment and better understand what collaborative teaching and learning means in terms of policy and practice. Furthermore, the project expects to have an impact on national and European policy development on collaborative teaching and learning through evidence-based results. Read more here.
TASK: Teacher Assessing Key Competences in School
Teaching students not only knowledge but also support the development of their key competences is seen as vital for their success in today's society and employment market. The assessment of these competences is a challenge. The new TASK project aims to provide an answer: European Schoolnet will, together with partners from France, Italy, Spain and Turkey, develop a tool for students to self-assess their key competences. The new tool will be based on the already existing Vintage tool for adults, developed in a previous Grundtvig project. It will be tested in each country with at least 20 teachers. Launched in July 2016, Europeana DSI-2 operates a multi-sided platform for cultural heritage. It aims to maximise impact for business' that wish to re-use cultural heritage data and the organisations that own digital or digitised objects by attracting the attention of new users. The role of European Schoolnet in the project is to carry out a validation pilot involving 20 teachers from 10 countries who develop and test pedagogical scenarios and learning activities that incorporate Europeana content. The objective is to help mainstream re-use of digital cultural content in primary and secondary schools. Read more here.
Texas Instruments DLP® Products Pilot Program
Texas Instruments DLP® Products Pilot Program is a research project commissioned by Texas Instruments (TI) DLP® Products on the impact of full high definition 1080p DLP® projectors in supporting future teaching and learning of Science Subjects in secondary schools. The validation research will include professional development for participating teachers in the Future Classroom (FCL) Toolkit based on pilots in over 2,500 classrooms in Europe to help develop, new innovative pedagogical scenarios supported by technology. Chromebook Teacher Professional Development and Evaluation Programme
Google Education and Acer asked European Schoolnet (EUN) to conduct an evaluation programme on the use of Acer Chromebooks and Google tools in classrooms, together with a professional development programme for the teachers involved. 12 teachers were specially selected from the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK to take part in the evaluation. School Leaders Working Group
This pilot working group was formed in January 2015, with the objective to shape a future offering to support and engage school leaders across Europe in implementing the spread of innovative pedagogical practice across the whole school. Phase 1 (January to June 2015) was supported by Microsoft and Promethean and coordinated by European Schoolnet through its Future Classroom Lab initiative. Read more here
Samsung Professional Development Programme
The Professional Development Programme (PDP) designed for Samsung used the Future Classroom Toolkit. The Toolkit is based on the work that European Schoolnet has carried out in more than 2,500 classrooms across 20 European countries. The toolkit helps teachers and school leaders to ensure that classroom technologies support new ways of teaching. Teachers participating in the PDP received an introduction to the toolkit and how to use it. This helped them to develop their own pathway towards innovating classroom practice. Read more here
Creative Classrooms Lab - Pan-European policy experimentations with tablets
The Creative Classrooms Lab project (2013-2015) is working with 45 schools in 8 European countries and policy-makers to collect evidence on the implementation, impact and up-scaling of 1:1 pedagogical approaches using tablets. The project, funded by European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme, is coordinated by European Schoolnet, and has 10 partners.
iTEC - Designing the future classroom
In iTEC (Innovative Technologies for Engaging Classrooms, 2010-2014), educational tools and resources were piloted in over 2,500 classrooms across 20 European countries, with the goal of providing a sustainable model for fundamentally redesigning teaching and learning. The Future Classroom Toolkit, based on the successful iTEC methodology is available on the FCL website. Read more here
Living Schools Lab - A whole-school approach to ICT in teaching and learning
With the participation of 15 partners, including 10 education ministries, the two-year Living Schools Lab project promoted a whole-school approach to ICT use, scaling up best practices in the use of ICT between schools with various levels of technological proficiency. The project was funded by the FP7 of European Commission, and ended in September 2014. Read more here
CPDLab - Teacher professional development for the digital age
The Future Classroom Lab helped the CPDLab project (Continuing Professional Development Lab) deliver continuous professional development courses for teachers. During two years (2011-2013), this EC-funded project planned, developed and validated three training courses to help teachers make better use of new technology in the classroom, and engage students with technology to improve motivation and results. The contents of the modular courses are offered free of charge to be used by teacher training organisations and other training providers. Download the CPDLab course materials here.
