European Schoolnet's Future Classroom Lab continues to inspire others to create similar learning spaces. The network welcomed several new members recently!
While great teaching happens in every conceivable kind of environment, sometimes having a classroom that's tailor-made for 21st century learning can make all the difference. That's certainly the case in the Lisbon, Portugal suburb of Setúbal, where Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert Carlos Cunha has helped to create the Future Classroom.
Seven new videos showcasing innovative pedagogical practice in European classrooms have been published. The videos have been created by the Interactive Classroom Working Group that launched the classroom practice series last year with four videos.
In 2014 it was decided to launch and provide ongoing support for a pan-European network of Future Classroom Ambassadors. The concept of Future Classroom Ambassadors is an important mechanism to leverage the results of EUN projects like iTEC, Living Schools Lab, and Creative Classrooms Lab, as well as future projects that will run under the general umbrella of the Future Classroom Lab.
The latest installment in the Future Classroom Lab interview series sees Janet Looney, Director of the European Institute of Education and Social Policy, give her views on the trends shaping the future of education: outcomes vs inputs, learning transversal skills, key competences, and classroom-based formative assessment.
The Creative Classrooms Lab will run a series of webinars to present topics related to the educational use of tablets. The topics include for example special needs education, flipped classroom, personalised learning and collaboration.
"If you are going to innovate, you have to think about everything around, all around the system, you have to think about how can I make changes to my system to make ICT to help my system better."
Can classroom design have an effect on students' learning progress? The final results of a holistic, multi-level analysis carried out by the School of the Built Environment in University of Salford say yes.
A group of innovative school leaders are meeting as part of a Future Classroom Lab initiative, supported by Microsoft and Promethean. In this first phase, the group is sharing and discussing programmes that have been useful in helping them lead change in their schools. In June, the aim is to share their best practice to help others.
