On 15-17 November 2017 the annual EMINENT conference took place in Brussels. EMINENT is organized by the European Schoolnet and is "…an expert meeting in education networking bringing stakeholders from across Europe together to discuss the next challenges and potential solutions to ensure an innovative education for all".

European Schoolnet welcomes back two major EdTech innovators whose new companies join the Future Classroom Lab29/11/2017
Technology plays an important role in schools, helping to transform teaching and learning. Educational technology, also known as ‘EdTech', depends, as many other sectors, on innovation. Innovation often comes from visionary thinkers with entrepreneurial mindsets who dare to put their ideas into practice. Two such people are Nancy Knowlton, founder of SMART Technologies, and Tony Cann, Promethean's founder, who joined the Future Classroom Lab at the outset. Today, European Schoolnet is delighted to welcome them both back to the Future Classroom Lab with their new companies, set to be important players on the educational technology scene.
European Schoolnet's annual conference EMINENT 2017, marking also our 20th anniversary, brought more than 300 key actors from across Europe to discuss what matters when it comes to learning space, time and eco-systems. Representatives of the Ministries of Education, schools, teacher training organizations, universities, major technology companies and the wider education community reflected on the personal, social and professional competences that we should focus οn when educating the future citizens and employees nowadays.
How children behave on the internet? Among the modern educational challenges, the importance of eSafety and digital citizenship for schools is a topic of heavy debate. Therefore, it is essential that schools find interesting and engaging ways in which to deliver what can be repetitive but vital information to students of all ages.
The Future Classroom Lab training courses on technology-enhanced learning are particularly designed to support teachers' professional development for today's teaching challenges and the classrooms of the future.
In a changing world dominated by applications, software products and computers, it is usually said that in the future, not knowing the language of computers will be as challenging as being illiterate or innumerate are today. Computational thinking teaches you how to tackle large problems by breaking them down into a sequence of smaller, more manageable problems. Students who learn it across the curriculum can begin to see a relationship between subjects, as well as between life inside and outside of the classroom.

Creating a collaborative educational environment can build a community of key stakeholders who are all working toward one common goal: improve and raise the quality of education. On the other hand, encouraging students to reach out to each other to solve problems and share knowledge not only builds collaboration skills, it leads to deeper learning and understanding.
Since its opening in 2012, the Future Classroom Lab of European Schoolnet has inspired many institutes and organisations to build similar flexible learning spaces in Europe and beyond. A few years ago, the National Institute of Educational Sciences in Beijing created its own version, inspired by the Future Classroom in Brussels. Since then, the NIES has built a network of educational institutes in China to promote the ideas of active learning. One of the members of the NIES network is the Jiangbei Teacher Institute of Chongqing, which will open a new flexible classroom in November 2017. To support this launch, the Teacher Training Institute invited European Schoolnet to run a summer school for 60 teachers and teacher trainers.
