In our Future Classroom Lab (FCL) learning environment, we target students aged 6–11. All activities are designed to promote active, student-centered learning through six interconnected zones:
Investigate Zone focuses on fostering curiosity, inquiry, and problem-solving. Students participate in hands-on experiments, such as observing plant growth or exploring magnetism. They conduct mini-surveys (e.g., “Healthy Nutrition”) and analyze the results, while STEM challenges—such as designing bridges or towers—develop analytical thinking.
Create Zone emphasizes creativity and digital production. Students design digital posters on environmental topics, produce digital storybooks with voiceovers, and transform ideas into tangible or digital outputs, strengthening their innovation skills.
Present Zone develops communication skills and self-confidence. Students present group projects using interactive boards, prepare mini newsletters about weekly class activities, and engage in role-plays (e.g., historical characters), enhancing both verbal and visual expression.
Exchange Zone supports collaboration and teamwork. Through group tasks—such as designing a “Living Space on Mars” or building durable bridges—students co-create solutions. Collaborative mapping activities (e.g., regions of Türkiye) further promote shared responsibility and peer learning.
Develop Zone addresses individual learning needs and differentiation. Activities include silent reading, level-based math tasks, and language exercises focusing on listening and speaking, allowing students to progress at their own pace.
Interact Zone promotes active participation through technology and gamification. Students use digital tools for quizzes, interactive board applications for mathematics, and simple simulations to explore scientific concepts in an engaging way.
For this age group, it is essential to design game-based, dynamic, and short activities, ensure a balance between physical materials and digital tools, encourage effective group work, and apply continuous, process-based assessment.
Technology in this learning environment acts as a bridge between pedagogy and space:
- In the Investigate Zone, tablets, sensors, and VR tools enable students to explore environments and collect real-time data.
- In the Create and Develop Zones, tools such as 3D printers, robotic coding kits, and design software support prototyping and innovation.
- In the Present and Interact Zones, green screen technology, cameras, and interactive panels enhance communication and media production. Additionally, assistive technologies ensure inclusion, allowing all learners to actively participate.
This integrated approach ensures that technology enhances creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and active learning.
