The EFFA Classroom Lab at CEIP La Moraña, located in a rural area, represents our commitment to innovative, inclusive, and high-quality education. Our goal is to create a flexible learning environment that responds to the needs of 21st-century learners, while ensuring that students in a rural context have access to the same opportunities as those in urban settings. This space promotes active, student-centred learning, where pupils are encouraged to explore, collaborate, and create.
Our classroom has been strongly inspired by the Future Classroom Lab (FCL) in Brussels, particularly in its vision of integrating space, pedagogy, and technology. Following this model, we have rethought the traditional classroom layout and organised our space into different learning zones that support diverse educational experiences. This approach has been essential in helping us introduce innovative methodologies in our local context.
The EFFA Classroom is structured into six flexible zones. The Create Zone allows students to design and develop projects, fostering creativity and innovation. The Collaborate Zone supports teamwork and communication through group activities. In the Present Zone, students share their work and develop their speaking skills. The Investigate Zone encourages inquiry-based learning and critical thinking. The Develop Zone provides a quiet space for individual work and reflection, while the Interact Zone offers opportunities for engaging with interactive tools and more dynamic learning activities. These zones are flexible and can be adapted according to different teaching and learning needs.
In terms of technology, we use interactive displays, tablets, laptops, and digital platforms that enhance collaboration, creativity, and digital competence. Our methodological approach includes project-based learning, collaborative learning, inquiry-based learning, flipped classroom strategies, and differentiated instruction, allowing us to address the diversity of our students effectively.
The benefits of this classroom are especially important in a rural area. It increases motivation and engagement, supports the development of key competences such as communication and problem-solving, and helps reduce the gap between rural and urban education. It also strengthens the connection between our school and the local community.
