Future Classroom Lab IC Spoleto

The school is composed of ten campuses, including six nursery schools and four primary schools. Within this educational context, the Future Classroom Lab plays a key role in enriching both traditional and innovative teaching practices, offering students meaningful and engaging learning experiences.

Our laboratory spaces are organized to host science, mathematics, or STEAM lessons. They are partially structured following the FCL model. There is an interactive area where students can engage with the web via digital boards. In the Research and Exchange zone, students can work in groups. While some specific FCL zones are missing due to the limited size of our classrooms, we compensate by using adjacent outdoor spaces or adapting different rooms to serve specific functions.

Our lab spaces are used for Mathematics, English, Science, and Technology lessons, as they are equipped with specific tools for these subjects. However, every teacher utilizes these spaces to make their lessons interactive, cooperative, or hands-on. The use of digital boards and web interaction integrates ICT (Information and Communication Technology) directly into the flow of the lesson.

By structuring the labs after European Schoolnet's FCL model, we wanted to move beyond the "one-size-fits-all" classroom. This approach recognizes that different phases of learning require different environments. Through Inquiry-Based & Hands-On Learning (Didattica Laboratoriale) instead of just hearing about science or technology, students use specific tools to experiment. They learn to negotiate roles, solve problems collectively, and communicate their findings. This shifts the teacher’s role from "lecturer" to "facilitator" or "coach."
