The FCL Akkanat learning lab mainly targets primary school students (ages 7–11). It provides a flexible and innovative learning environment where pupils develop digital literacy, problem-solving, communication, collaboration and creativity through active learning. It supports both curriculum-based lessons and interdisciplinary project work. Flexible furniture allows students to work individually or in groups while using different learning zones at the same time.
The lab encourages student-centred learning through project-based activities, collaborative tasks and the effective use of digital technologies. Teachers guide and support students throughout the learning process, helping them transform their ideas into meaningful outcomes. The classroom is organised according to six learning zones:
- In the Investigate zone, pupils use tablets, computers, virtual reality headsets and other resources to research, explore new topics and develop critical thinking skills.
- In the Create zone, they design and produce digital and physical products using tools such as 3D printers, Tinkercad, Scratch, Blockly, Code.org and Arduino. Students also create videos and digital content related to school projects and special events.
- The Exchange zone promotes teamwork, discussion and peer learning. Pupils share ideas, solve problems together and improve their communication and social skills.
- In the Interact zone, web-based tools are used to increase participation, while flexible seating arrangements support different learning activities and classroom interaction.
- The Present zone enables pupils to develop presentation and public speaking skills. Using video conferencing systems and live-streaming equipment, students can present their projects to other classes and participate in online learning activities.
- In the Develop zone, pupils reflect on their learning, complete self-assessment activities, build personal portfolios, and work independently according to their own learning pace.
The lab is equipped with an 85-inch display, laptops, tablets, virtual reality headsets, a 3D printer, cameras, webcams, microphones, and modular furniture. These resources support robotics, STEM activities, coding, logic games, digital storytelling, and project-based learning. It also serves as a professional learning environment for teachers. Training courses on innovative learning environments, digital technologies, STEM and educational practices are organised in the classroom. In addition, pre-service teachers from Selçuk University and teachers from the district and province use the lab for teaching practice and professional development activities.
