FCL EDESSA is an innovative educational environment designed for secondary school students aged 10-14, focusing on their social, academic, and cultural development through effective technology use. This "Classroom of the Future" integrates information and communication technologies into learning, diverging from traditional methods. It employs modern educational theories such as constructivism, active learning, inquiry-based learning, and multiple intelligence theory to ensure continuous and transformative learning experiences.
Teachers in FCL EDESSA have been trained on how to use Web 2.0 tools and incorporate them into their teaching methods. They have participated in weekly meetings to discuss and develop innovative learning activities. The classroom environment is flexible, with movable tables that facilitate teamwork, and students use tablets and computers for individual and group projects. They also have access to a presentation area where they can showcase their work, receive feedback, and improve their self-expression, particularly benefiting shy students. The intelligence games corner promotes strategic and multidimensional thinking through various games.
In the FCL EDESSA class, technology is utilized across six learning zones:
Present Zone: Features an interactive whiteboard where students present their work and receive feedback from peers and teachers.
Investigate Zone: Equipped with computers, tablets, headphones, microscopes, Arduino kits, robotic coding tools, and webcams. Students use this area for individual or group research, exploration, production, and problem-solving.
Exchange Zone: Contains tablets and computers for students to work in small groups. Here, they create concept maps and design games using Web 2.0 tools.
Develop Zone: Provides tablets and headphones for individualized learning. Students can work at their own pace on activities that align with their interests.
Create Zone: Includes Arduino kits, robotic coding tools, tripod webcams, tablets, and Makey Makey educational sets. Students use these tools to enhance creativity by interpreting, analyzing, and producing work, solving real-life problems, and creating and editing videos.
Interact Zone: Contains interactive whiteboards, tablets, and computers. This area supports active participation in class activities and fosters interaction among students.
