FCab Turku is located in Turun normaalikoulu, the Teacher Training School of Turku University. It is the training school of classroom and subject teacher students attending the University of Turku.
Turun normaalikoulu consists of comprehensive school grades 1–9 and general upper secondary school. Our school is a multicultural and international center of learning. The key values are wide general knowledge and ability as well as the promotion of knowledge, skills and resources that support learning, positive development of self-esteem and the journey to becoming a responsible adult.
FCLab Turku aims at testing and exploring digital possibilities and finding solutions for digital pedagogy. We focus in linguistic and creative learning activities, student well-being, and in enhancing teacher competence with digital tools.
We seek effective digital pedagogical solutions, especially in terms of second language teaching, language awareness, crafts and maker pedagogy, physical activity, music, and arts subjects. With these, we aim at promoting learning and student well-being while addressing the unique context of our school as a multilingual area.
We take action in collaborative sharing of successful digital pedagogical solutions and expertise within the staff of our own school and student teachers but also among teachers in the Turku region. This is done through regular Staff PD sessions: optional two-hour afternoon sessions, which we call Digi Afternoons and AI Afternoons, and compulsory few minute Tech Bytes in teacher meetings. We also have created an easily replicable model for schools to promote digitalization using existing resources.
In accordance with the FCLab idea of learning zones (explore, immerse, influence, express, create), we are developing the common spaces in our school as areas for learning. We aim at conducting location-independent lab experiments and implementing zonality in the current learning environment.
