Get funded by Erasmus+

Are you a teacher, school leader, trainer, or member of the school staff? If so you can get your professional development fully funded by Erasmus+. And that’s great news.

Full eligibility list for staff teaching (KA1)

Under Key Action 1 (KA1), Erasmus+ offers grants for staff to go abroad for short training courses (2 to 10 days), helping you grow professionally while bringing fresh ideas back to your school.

And here’s the best part, these opportunities are fully or mostly funded, covering your travel, accommodation, course fees, and more. It’s a smart and practical way to discover new educational practices from across Europe. And as you’ll see soon, it’s way easier than you think.

You might know Erasmus+ as that programme that let you or your friends study abroad during your studies but it’s much more than that. It’s also open to teachers, school staff, and even VET, primary and secondary pupils. Whether you're interested in attending a training course like this one, shadowing a colleague abroad, or even teaching in another European school, there’s a mobility format that fits your goals. Because for Erasmus+ learning doesn’t stop when you leave school, and it’s better if it happens abroad.

How to get started

As said earlier, applying for Erasmus+ funding isn’t complicated, but it does require some planning and anticipation. Funding rounds are tied to specific deadlines, so don’t wait until the last minute.

Talk to your school head or Erasmus+ coordinator to share your interest, and check which of the following applies:

Your school has an Erasmus+ accreditation

Your school has an Erasmus+ accreditation
You’re in a great position! This means your school is already approved to organise staff mobilities regularly, so all you need is your Erasmus+ coordinator’s approval and to align with the existing mobility plan.

Your school is part of a consortium

Your school is part of a consortium
A consortium is a group of schools coordinated by one organisation that manages Erasmus+ mobilities for all its members. If this is your case, get in touch with the consortium’s coordinator, they’ll walk you through the steps and help with your application.

Your school is not accredited and not part of a consortium

Your school is not accredited and not part of a consortium
No worries! You can still apply for short-term mobility projects without accreditation. This option is ideal for schools new to Erasmus+ or looking to start with just a few mobilities (e.g. Future Classroom Lab courses ).

Note: Application deadlines are typically February (for projects June–December) and October (for January–May). Check the exact dates on your National Agency’s website.

Short-term projects: step by step

  1. Register your organisation
To apply, your organisation needs an Organisation ID (OID). If you don’t have one yet: Note: If you already have an OID, you can reuse it.
  2. Access the application form
Find your form on your National Agency’s site or in the Erasmus+ Portal under “Opportunities → Erasmus+” (select Key Action 1 Staff Mobility).
  3. Complete the application
    When filling out your project:
    • Link your goals to your school’s development plan
    • Refer to the quality standards and Erasmus+ priorities: inclusion, sustainability, digital transformation, civic engagement
    • Keep it concise; evaluators read thousands of applications
Tip: You can send up to 3 staff per course. Team up to make logistics easier and more cost-effective.

What’s funded?

Erasmus+ provides a flat-rate envelope to help cover your main costs, no receipts needed. Just declare participants, days, destinations, etc., and the system calculates your grant.

  • Travel: Fixed amount by round-trip distance (use the official distance calculator ). “Green travel” (train, bus, carpooling) can boost your grant.
  • Individual support: Daily allowance for accommodation, meals, transport (100–180 €). Rates auto-calculated by your National Agency.
  • Course fees: Up to 80 € per participant per day (max 10 days).
  • Organisational support: Around 100 € per participant for preparation and follow-up.
  • Additional support: Extra funds for fewer-opportunity participants, visas, high travel costs. Contact your National Agency early.
