Little Steps Big Futures FCL Classroom

The Little Steps Big Futures FCL class provides early childhood students aged 3–6 with opportunities to engage in innovative learning environments through hands-on activities and workshops. These are conducted in well-structured, flexible spaces that encourage active participation and foster curiosity, collaboration, and creativity.

For the past three years, the academic team has worked collaboratively across disciplines to develop, implement, and disseminate learning scenarios tailored to early childhood education. As part of the Erasmus+ KA210 project Little Steps Big Futures, teachers have received extensive professional development in areas such as digital skills, STEM, environmental education, and sustainability, both locally and internationally.

Grounded in a constructivist approach, the FCL class integrates pedagogical methods including play-based learning, inquiry-based learning, storytelling, active learning, and the theory of multiple intelligences. Activities are designed to support students' holistic development—encouraging them to be questioning, empathetic, collaborative, and solution-oriented learners.

Each learning zone is equipped with age-appropriate materials and technologies. The space features movable and modular furniture to facilitate smooth transitions between individual and group activities. Students use Web 2.0 tools, coding robots, and other digital resources to create content, conduct interdisciplinary projects, and connect learning to real life.

  • The Interact Zone includes interactive whiteboards, tablets, and coding tools for digital interaction and participation.

  • The Investigate Zone offers microscopes, digital magnifiers, and augmented reality tools for scientific inquiry and experimentation.

  • The Exchange Zone supports small-group collaboration using STEM task cards, TwinSpace platforms, and simulation tools.

  • In the Develop Zone, students explore e-books, use learning apps, and create journals through personalized digital learning.

  • The Create Zone features 3D pens, LEGOs, Makey Makey kits, and green screen technology to support creativity and media production.

  • Finally, the Present Zone includes a stage, 3D screen, VR tools, and applications like Book Creator, where students present their work and receive feedback from peers and teachers.

To support teachers’ professional development, the FCL classroom also organizes workshops on topics such as digital tools, eTwinning, environmental STEM activities, and storytelling, while fostering collaboration with other preschools.
