The Educational Repositories Network (EdReNe) 22nd Strategic Seminar 2025 was held in Ljubliana, Slovenia, on May 15-16, 2025. The event brought together key stakeholders in education and technology for a focused two-day event on artificial intelligence in education.   The objective of EdReNe annual meetings is to nurture forums for the exchange of expertise and best practices in managing educational content repositories at the K-12 level in Europe.

Organised by the Slovenian Ministry of Education, in collaboration with European Schoolnet, and attended by 23 representatives of Ministries of Education and other educational institutions from Austria, Belgium, England, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Norway and Slovenia, EdReNe Strategic Seminar offered the participants an opportunity to follow-up the discussions initiated last year about AI Projects and New Initiatives Concerning AI-Generated Educational Content.  

Day 1 Highlights

- Slovenian Digital Strategy: Petra Bevek presented Slovenia’s new national plan, aligned with EU goals, featuring a centralized platform and tools to support over 200 schools and teachers.

- Workshop on Digital Educational Content (DEC): Led by Michael Hallissy from H2 Learning and member of the EC Working Group on Digital Education, this session defined DEC as modular, interactive, and teacher-driven, with a focus on the upcoming EU DEC framework.

- ASK Britannica: Hayley Brett and Luke Saunders from Britannica Education introduced an AI-powered search tool offering safe, verified content to support student inquiry.

- Slovenian EdTech Tools: Danilo Zimšek showcased AI-enhanced tools (e.g., KOBI, gamified apps) aimed at reducing teacher workload and supporting inclusive learning.

Day 2 Highlights

- European Digital Education Hub: Anthony Fisher Camilleri presented the Hub as a collaborative space for 7,000+ members, enabling professional exchange and AI-focused dialogue.

- Open AI Models for Teachers: Camilleri also explored ethical, transparent AI tools to support content creation and teaching workflows.

- DAIverse Framework: Hermann Morgenbesser from the Future Learning Lab Vienna introduced a pedagogical model for inclusive AI use, emphasizing explainable AI and support for diverse learners.

- Irish Reflections: Patrick Coffey from Scoilnet highlighted the need for simple, practical AI guidance and shared Scoilnet’s plans to integrate AI into its resource platform.

- Upgraded Slovenian Platforms: Petra Bevec and Mirjam Oblak presented enhancements to Slovenia’s teacher and student platforms, including the new eTorba portal.

- Final Workshop: Participants rotated through discussions on the future of platforms, teacher roles, and digital learning strategies.

The EdReNe 2025 Strategic Seminar concluded highlighting the importance of collaboration, innovation, and teacher empowerment in digital education. It underscored the role of AI as a supportive ally—enhancing personalized learning, reducing administrative burdens, and fostering innovation through community-driven efforts. The seminar called for the development of inclusive, flexible, and AI-enhanced platforms, and stressed the need for sustained international knowledge exchange and cross-sector collaboration to shape the future of learning.
