The Future Classroom Lab in Greece

How is Greece strengthening innovation in education through its participation in the Future Classroom Lab (FCL) Ambassadors network?

With three new countries joining, the network now spans nineteen countries promoting digitally enhanced and flexible learning environments.

Professor Zacharoula Smyrnaiou, lead ambassador for Greece and Vice President of the Computer Technology Institute (CTI) Diophantus, explains that Greece is advancing a national education strategy through to 2027. The plan focuses on improving learning outcomes, strengthening inclusion, and accelerating digital transformation. A key initiative is the creation of 13 innovative centres across the country to help teachers integrate digital technologies and new teaching approaches.

Zois Asimakopoulos, co-lead ambassador, secondary school teacher and postdoctoral researcher, highlights the challenges teachers face as students increasingly use digital tools and artificial intelligence. Project-based learning and active participation help ensure students develop critical thinking and practical skills.

Through the Future Classroom Lab network, Greece aims to extend innovation beyond the capital and ensure schools across the country can benefit from modern learning environments.
