In 1969, Herbert Simon defined the term "design" by saying that whenever we intentionally shape our world to adapt to it, we are designing, and whenever we don't, the world comes to us. When an individual, 100,000 years ago, picked up a stone and a flint and started exploring and tinkering to make something that could cut better, that individual was designing because he was intentionally shaping the world. At different levels, we have always been designers, changing existing situations into preferred situations. In the educational world, we observed that most of the time our work is top-down, from the people “that know” to the people that “don't know”. We are experimenting with a new bottom-up way of working by integrating a participatory design approach at the heart of our experiments with teachers and students. In this webinar, we propose to illustrate our methodology through the illustration of several examples of our experiments.

Speaker bio
Luis Galindo works in the Research and Development (R&D) Department at Réseau Canopé, in France. He is also associated to the TECHNÉ Laboratory at the University of Poitiers. Before his R&D work at Réseau Canopé, he worked on various projects around digital technologies and education in South America, the United States, China and Europe. His work is at the crossroads of new digital technologies, experiment design (UX and UXR) and data science. He focuses on scientific research and the design of learning environments and digital artifacts.
