Description: With a surface of 190 sqm and a capacity of up to 36 pupils, QUB is the first mid-level makerspace in Cluj-Napoca (RO), and in Romania, focused on researching and designing STEAM education solutions for inquiry-based learning. It functions as a central educational hub and resource center serving 35 local schools by offering a range of targeted programs, including curriculum-aligned workshops and hands-on STEAM clubs for middle and high school students.
At Qub, we go beyond conventional teaching methods, encouraging student engagement through co-creation projects that foster creativity and collaborative learning. Recognizing the pivotal role teachers play, we extend our support by providing essential resources and comprehensive training events, empowering educators to enrich their teaching practices. We provide free access to an array of cutting-edge tools, from electronic microscopes to prototyping equipment (3d Printer, CNC laser cutter, vinyl and polystyrene cutter, drill press, band saw, sewing machine) and programmable electronics (Micro:bits, Arduino), ensuring that both students and teachers have the means to turn their innovative ideas into reality. We extend our impact to families and young adults through cross-disciplinary events, while also engaging on an international level, fostering a global perspective and enriching the educational experience.
Qub emphasizes curiosity, exploration and direct participation in learning. Our facilitators serve as guides, fostering an environment where questions are celebrated, failing is encouraged and dialogue is paramount. By seamlessly integrating technology, arts, sciences, and humanities, the space moves past traditional boundaries and offers a holistic approach to education.
Beyond its educational role, QUB also thrives as a hub of social connection. It serves as a welcoming community space, facilitating dialogue and collaboration among students, teachers, parents, local education experts, authorities, and private sector representatives. This inclusive environment fosters meaningful interactions and partnerships, reinforcing the shared commitment to enhancing education and creating a well-rounded learning ecosystem.
