Spazio Leo (Learning Expression On the Job) is one of the twenty-eight Future Labs funded by the Italian Ministry of Education to promote the Italian National Digital School Plan. This innovative learning space has been designed as a flexible, multidisciplinary environment open to students for learning, tutoring, and various cultural or recreational activities, including the multidisciplinary curricular paths known as Steam's Sisters.
Since its implementation in 2019 at Lower-High School Istituto Comprensivo 3 in Modena, Italy, Spazio LEO has served as an educational hub for experimentation, collaboration, and pedagogical innovation. It also functions as a training and laboratory environment for both teachers and students, allowing them to experiment with and innovate teaching and learning methods. One of its primary goals is to reach and inspire other educators by offering free training courses focused on digital and transversal skills.
Inside Spazio LEO, there are several multidisciplinary dedicated areas called "Rafts of Knowledge" (ZAC), which are mobile and virtual platforms, each dedicated to a different innovative field for a creative school, such as:
Robotics
Web/Video/Storytelling
Agri-food
The ZACs allow for flexible space organization depending on the learning activities being conducted. Spazio LEO also includes an assembly space and a gallery for expressive skills.
In addition to being a PNRR hub for digital transition and an INDIRE (Italian National Education Documentation and Research Institute) hub for educational avant-garde experimentation, Spazio LEO has recently become the hub of the national school network called Scuola Ibrida (Hybrid School). Furthermore, thanks to its under-14 AI curriculum, it has joined the national network for AI called Renidia. In September 2024, UNESCO selected Spazio LEO as a testimonial for the AI skills framework.
Partnership: At the time of its creation, Spazio Leo collaborated with Italian Campusstore Company, which provided most of the tools available. Over the years, other companies such as Sharp and Paper Pixel have also contributed to enhancing the space. We are proud to be Italy's first Google Reference School, particularly for the widespread use of Chromebooks.
