Active learning in the hybrid classroom

Due to the pandemic, the educators were first forced to suddenly adopt remote instruction in spring, whereas now the challenge is often to juggle between classroom-based education and at-home learning. Furthermore, in many cases, teachers have to operate in a hybrid context teaching both students who are in the classroom and students who are at home.
The question is, how we can prepare for a system that can support both and avoid at the same time reverting to straightforward lecture? Can active learning survive classroom environments where students' interaction is severely limited by physical distancing protocols? Can we engage students in a remote setting both synchronously and asynchronously?
We are all in this together and teachers need to support each other and share best practices. Participants of this FCL Learning Community will explore possible answers and solutions to be empowered for the current challenges. Participation in this event consists of synchronous and asynchronous sessions taking place from 26 to 29 October 2020. The total workload is about 4 hours and the participants will be offered a certificate. The event is created in collaboration with the Novigado project.
• Monday 26.10. at 17.00 CET: Opening session (live video conferencing). How to transform the ideas of the future classroom into a hybrid setting
• Tuesday 27.10. – Wednesday 28.10. (all day): Participants take part in asynchronous sessions to discuss and share.
• Thursday 29.10. at 17.00 CET: Concluding session (live video conferencing). Final statements and discussions in breakout rooms
